Street Art in Music Videos: Shepard Fairey's Work Featured in "Money" by N.A.S.A.

Graffiti and hip-hop have long had close ties, but the selection of Shepard Fairey’s street art in the “Money” music video for N.A.S.A. gives this pairing a decidedly highbrow edge.

We’ve covered a wide variety of Shepard Fairey’s work at LoveThatTune. As you’ll recall, he was the artist that designed the infamous Obama “Hope” posters and “Obey” guerrilla campaign. The music video for N.A.S.A.’s “Money” uses Shepard Fairey’s work throughout.

N.A.S.A. is a collaboration between Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon; the acronym stands for “North America, South America.” Other artists featured in “Money” include David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, and Z-Trip, according to Chunnel. The video was directed by Syd Garon and Paul Griswold.

London: Mutate Britain Urban Art Gallery ( Obey, Pure Evil ...)
The Shutters were lifted on the gallery at 7pm Thursday 2oth Nov, to a brilliant crowd of artists, press, friends and family. The building was reverberating with oohs and ahhs, with all ages loving the vast array of art on show.

If you haven't checked it out, make sure you do. This is a rareity, and should not be missed. Mutates got everything from Sculpture, Paintings, Prints, Installations, Film, Performances and Interactive Media... A Mulitmedia Pile UP.

Just a small reminder that everything in the gallery is for sale and price lists are available from press office - rsvp@raw-material.co.uk

There are also some nice pics on the facebook page!

Obamarketing - Ltd Ed Shepard Fairey Prints Say Obama is Progress
Shepard Fairey’s subversive ‘Obey’ graphics are powerful because of their vague (obey whom?) but clearly political overtones (he’s depicted Stalin, Mao and even Bush). Now he has turned his attentions to Barak Obama, and the man he believes stands for progress and hope. The results have been amazing--the first run of limited edition prints sold out in 15 minutes and now he is looking at expanding his pro-Obama efforts.

"I just thought now was the time for me to stick my neck out and root for someone who I think has the potential to be awesome. Hopefully he won't disappoint me, but when I look at the rest of the field, in my eyes he stands way above any one else. That said, while I'd like people to get behind Barack, I also made a poster in the same color scheme that just says "Vote!" Even the way I worded the announcement on my site, I just pointed out why I support him and then encouraged people to check him out for themselves. I don't want to tell people to vote for Barack because I say so. Even if you like my art and think it's a cool poster, don't vote for Barack unless you think he's the right guy." (creativity-online)
