Seeing as it tis' the season, lets talk about Snowbombing 2009. This year is set to be massive year in Austrian ski town of Mayrhofen. The line up is as fruity as ever this year, and the snow has been emptying itself all over European peaks since late November.

Airport: the nearest being Innsbruck (a quick 30mins down the road) and others such as Salzberg and Munich are only a couple of hours away by coach transfer.

Burton edgy new Snowboard Range - Love

Vermont based snowboard company Burton have released a steamy new range of boards under the Love range. As you can imagine some American states arent too happy about it, but who cares they nice. Burton said the boards are more campy than erotic. "These board graphics are retro, tongue-in-cheek, and, in my opinion, harmless," wrote Donna Carpenter, founder of the company's Women's Initiatives program and Jake's wife.

The new line of snowboards feature Playboy bunnies, not wearing much. Good thing they are tucted up nicely in the board otherwise they'd be getting a bit chilly. Seeing as I own a Burton Un Inc , I dont think I can criticise them for being 'too much'. Would I get one ... No! Are the women hot and is the board any good? ... Yes!

The End prepares its final dance

London’s The End club is set to close its famous metal doors forever on January 25th, with a final double dose of clubbing bliss.
For the last few weeks the outside of The End has been headed with ‘Goodbye Baby’ on neon blue paint and Richie Hawtin, Loco Diceand Magda recently played their last-ever party at the venue which kept going till 11am the next day.
The final Saturday night swan song will see DJs Laurent Garnier, Layo & Bushwacka!, Mr. C, Erol Alkan, Ben Watt, Jimpster, Will Saul, Rory Phillips and Don Mac throw down beats.
It’ll be an emotional farewell for a venue that has remained committed to underground electronic music since it first opened on 2nd December 1995.
Of course, it wouldn’t be fitting to have a closing party without an afterparty and afterhour mongers Jaded have the honour of giving the soundsystem its last ever bleep in the adjorning AKA bar on Sunday morning from 5.30am.
Raymundo Rodriguez and some very special guests will play (at a guess, it’ll be Garnier, Mr. C and Layo & Bushwacka!) at the afterparty which might go for 24 hours or longer.
What will happen to the venue is up to its new owners, but no doubt it’ll become another bland Central London office space, with perhaps only the faintest aroma of human sweat about the place to indicate the energy that was expended by hundreds of thousands of dancers over its illustrious 13-year history.

This is my first proper post on here so I thought I'd start by putting a bit about myself. I think this pretty much sums it up:

Cos it's my first post, check this random variety of banging tunes.

First up a nice bit of hard-hitting ragga dubstep from The Bug and Warrior Queen. This tune would be sooo killer live.

Continuing on the ragga tip, check this sweet Heatwave refix of DJ Q's bassline remix of the Tony Matterhorn tune Dutty Wine. Rubi Dan features on the vocals, and he makes this tune sick. Bassline producers take note - why ruin a tune with some crappy cheesy lyrics when you can lay some badboy ragga vocals like these over the top?

I'm not quite sure where I stand with Drum n Bass at the moment. I used to love jump-up, but now certain high-profile producers seem to churn out wave upon wave of terrible terrible stuff, and the raves are full of wankers. On the other hand, certain heads are pulling out some nice, dark numbers. One thing's for certain though - mcs can do one! I'm loving this jokes tune by Noisia at the moment. Check it.

I've only recently got into techno, and to be honest don't know much about it. One thing I do know however, is that the production duo Format:B are sick. Of the tunes I've got, theirs are the ones which seem to stick out. Here's one my favourites. Banging.

This Jack Beats remix is probably my favourite tune of 2008. Since it's creation, every DJ dropped it in every set ever. Why? Because it's FUCKING SICK! It's got a sick old school ravey build-up, a fully badboy drop, and best of all, despite being rinsed to fuck I still fucking love it! Amazing.

Sonar 2009 announces ticket prices

Here in the depths of cold gray winter one can only look forward to the brighter days of summer for solace, and arriving right on time is talk of Spain’s Sonar festival.

Barcelona’s favorite summertime electronic music festival runs June 18th through the 20th, and has announced that advanced ticket prices will begin at 125 euros until the end of January when the price will jump to 140 a ticket.

Street Art in Music Videos: Shepard Fairey's Work Featured in "Money" by N.A.S.A.

Graffiti and hip-hop have long had close ties, but the selection of Shepard Fairey’s street art in the “Money” music video for N.A.S.A. gives this pairing a decidedly highbrow edge.

We’ve covered a wide variety of Shepard Fairey’s work at LoveThatTune. As you’ll recall, he was the artist that designed the infamous Obama “Hope” posters and “Obey” guerrilla campaign. The music video for N.A.S.A.’s “Money” uses Shepard Fairey’s work throughout.

N.A.S.A. is a collaboration between Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon; the acronym stands for “North America, South America.” Other artists featured in “Money” include David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, and Z-Trip, according to Chunnel. The video was directed by Syd Garon and Paul Griswold.

They specialise in bespoke hoodies: hand-made, made-to-measure, hooded jackets crafted from exquisite suit materials. There are 30 odd outer and inner linings to choose from. All of which are pretty special. There is also the special feeling you get, knowing that No-one else out there has got your hoodie. It's a good feeling. Trust me.

Each jacket has pockets made from the lining fabric, within which there is a personalised label. I opted for a wool/cashmere outer and a paisley inner. It all looks awesome, especially the pockets which look completely amazing. Definitely worth a purchase if you got £170 odd quid to spare.

There would be a picture of the one purchased but its seems it might have been lost in during travel. Great!

Nudism to Promote Drinks (Pepsi)

This is a raunchy but fun print ad promoting Pepsi Raw, a drink created by PepsiCo made of natural ingredients such as apple extract, plain caramel, acacia trees, sprinkling water, and other natural ingredients.

This ad, which is called “Pepsi Raw: In the Raw,” plays off the concept that getting naked is natural and so are the ingredients in Pepsi Raw.

The print ad campaign was created by advertising agency Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, UK.

Some great images that work. Very refreshing to see someone like Pepsi doing some creative with an edge ... Love It!

Glade festival needs a new home

This year Glade won Best Dance Festival at the UK Festival Awards, and around 10,000 “dance music and free spirit aficionados” attended the event, with performers that included Pendulum, Noisia, Drumattic Twins, Cassette Boy and DJ Rubbish.

The organisers behind the UK’s dance festival Glade are currently scouring the country in search of a new home for their 2009 event, which they hope to run from 16th-19th July.

Nick Ladd, Glade Festival’s chief said, “Wasing has been a great home for us for our first five years, but as part of the natural evolution of Glade we have decided to find another beautiful bit of England, in particular somewhere where we can run it later on all nights including Sunday, and make some proper noise!”. Thank fuck for that. How you can have a dance festival ending at 4 0'clock I'lll never know?!

It’s hard to describe Glade in one punch, but an electronic music version of Glastonbury might fit.

Bring on a Somerset or beachside location! Lovethattune would love that!

British dubstep producer Skream is the latest dance artist to have been tapped by Nike for a 30 minute track for their ‘run’ mix series.

Skream follows a long line of electronic music producers who have been asked by Nike to produce 30 minute workout pieces to help market their Nike Sport Music campaign including LCD Soundsystem, Cassius, The Crystal Method and Simian Mobile Disco.

Skream was the first name to come to me in regards to the dubstep movement, which seemed to emerge from the grime scene but most people seem to see it as another splinter of the UK garage scene of the early part of this decade. Whatever, it's one of the most exciting things going today, its sparse rhythms, massive bass and dark vibe fit today's world a lot better than most of the stuff I put up (and LOVE!). Skream, amazingly, is only 21-year old, based in the Croydon area of South London, who has been producing tracks since he was a teenager. He found himself working at the Big Apple Records shop, which was an early epicenter of dubstep. We'll have more to say about him as we put up some of his tracks, but for now, it seems important to note that Skream was perhaps the first to bring a melodic sense to the genre in 2005 and 2006, while maintaing its distinctive syncopated rhythms and dark basslines.

You get a great chance to hear this on the 2-hour mix he did for Pete Tong's radio show. Amazingly, dude almost exclusively uses tracks by himself or his mix of someone else's song, as he clearly does not lack for confidence. Why shouldn't he, though, if he's responsible for so many excellent tunes? A few quick observations, before you download - I had never realized how much dancehall/reggae influenced and overlapped with dubstep, it's one of the few genres that works just as well without vocals as with and the basslines, oh the basslines you will hear. More to come on this front, this is a good intro if you'd like to jump in and a really great mix for those of you who've been following this scene closely.

These new drawings from Banksy still retain the irreverent nature of his work, which is why I love them. They were released on his official website, and while they rock my world, I am not going to go all artsy and over analyze them.

Roller Rat is already known and loved by Banksy fans, but personally having endured many a boring private viewing, I prefer the piece entitled “Suits Looking At A Knob” and the group seated around the table “TV Monster.”

After the announcement a couple of weeks back that The Prodigy’s new LP ‘Invaders Must Die’ will be released at the beginning of March, the band have decided to fan the flames of hype with a free download of the album’s title track.

‘Invaders Must Die’ became available to download from the band’s website just a few minutes ago, and will be up till December 3rd.

Our initial thoughts? It’s a bit of a disappointment.
Yes The Prodigy’s trademark fast breakbeats are in there, but it’s not a full-on frontal assault of electronic noise and incendiary lyrics that we had hoped for.

It’s quite commercial by their standards, and the lead melody is (dare we say it for fear of being headbutted by Keef) a little bit joyful and sweet, like something a Japanese schoolgirl would listen to whilst skipping down the street.

Are The Prodigy getting soft in their old age?

Justice faking their live sets?

Poor old Justice are having a hard week. Last Thursday the duo admitted in an interview that their album [†] contained at least 400 uncleared samples, and now comes this photo which shows the pair faking it during a live set.

The MIDI controller on the left ain’t plugged in, but the tall fuzzy-haired one is pretending that it is - he’s got an intense concentrated look on his face whilst moving the faders and knobs. Busted!

The thing is - this may not be the best place to discuss this topic - live electronic music is a hard thing to do.

Anyone with a shred of understanding of how the music is made knows that it’s near impossible to play electronic music 100% live, unless you have the talent of somebody like The Bays, who can play improvised dance music using only instruments.

Daft Punk might just be the best live dance act of the last few years, but their set is pre-programmed down to every last beat.

When you’ve got a superbly powerful light show and a giant pyramid light thingy in sync with the music, there’s no way the show could be pulled off without pre-programming it.

So what are dance bands like Justice supposed to do? At least make an effort, and control some of the filters and FX to give the impression of a live performance.

Or remember to plug the damn MIDI controllers in and smile.

Justice admit to theivery

French electro duo Justice have admitted what many of their fans have suspected for many moons - they don’t clear all of their samples.
In an interview for MTV the pair came clean on the issue, saying that they ‘borrowed’ bits of Slipknot, Queen and 50 Cent, “but they are such short samples no one can recognize them.”
Xavier de Rosnay of the band said “On the album, [†], we maybe sampled 400 records.”
“Sometimes we do also use big samples,” he continued. “On the album, we used three big samples that we had to clear, and all the rest are just impossible to recognize. We’re using the very short samples to improve the sound, because we are just writing melodies on piano and then we are listing each note taken from other records, so we make a trade between those notes and the proper loops.”
Fans of their highly successful debut album [†] (Cross) will have a wait to endure as they are also said,"We’re really slow at making music.”
However, those looking for a fix can pick their live DVD/CD ‘A Cross the Universe’ which is released November 24.

Boom Festival won The Greener Festival Award 2008. Boom’s environmentally sustainable projects were recognized by an international jury that rewards festivals for their efforts to promote environmentally friendly events.

The award is based on a questionnaire which covers event management, travel and transport plans, CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, fair trade, waste management and recycling, water management and noise pollution. Points are awarded for festivals which can show an active plan to promote public transport, reduce on-site waste, recycle and compost wherever possible, re-use water and use sustainable power.

Festivals are expected to have a coherent environmental policy and the organisers have environmental auditors who visit as many festival sites as possible to assess how festivals implement their plans. In total, thirty one festivals have won the award.

Just six festivals - including Boom Festival – further received the ultimate distinction of ‘outstanding’ from the organisers.

We thank all those who contributed to this award by demonstrating environmental citizenship while at Boom Festival. This prize belongs to all of us!

Here are some of the facts that contributed to Boom’s distinction:

- 20,000 portable ashtrays were given at the gates;

- 45.000 litres of used vegetable oil were used, avoiding the emission of 117.000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere;

- 200.000 litres of water were intentionally evaporated – meaning that not even a liter of water used in Boom showers went to waste;

- 1 million 200 thousand litres of water are being stored in a man made lake for treatment with aquatic plants such as Typha sp, Eichornia sp or Azolla sp;

- 106.5 cubic metres of excrements did not need to be transferred to the local water treatment station for chemical based processing;

- 42.000 kg of organic waste were collected from the 17 restaurants at Boom and are currently undergoing a composting process;

- In six months time, about 20.000 kg of compost should become available for use as an organic agricultural fertilizer;

- 59.000 kg of human excrements were taken from the compost toilets and will also be treated through a worm based composting process resulting in about 30.000 kg of organic compost;

- Materials from other events (Rock in Rio Lisbon and the Amadora International Comic Strip Festival) were collected and re-used by Boom: in total 6 456 kg of plastic, 8 950 kg of metals, 77 kg of paper and 36 822 kg of wood were re-used, resulting in the non-emission of 167.04 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere;

- Around 3.000 people used the Boom Bus (Boom's public transport service).

Supporting the duo on a distinctly guitar-laden line up will be Manchester quartet The Whip, Swiss disco-dabbler Headman, Krautrock enthusiast Riton and Riotous Rockers playing a DJ set.

Kanye West’s new album electronic music not hip-hop

It was always abundantly clear that Kanye West was becoming corrupted by the pleasures and creative potential of electronic music.

First he sampled Daft Punk, then he headlined UK dance festival Global Gathering in July, and then there were those neon plastic glasses - a tip of the hat to rave, if ever there was one.
Now hip hop’s new messiah Kanye West is releasing his very own electronic music album. Should we be scared or delighted?

Due out on November 25th, Rolling Stone are reporting the preview of Mr. West’s ‘808 & Heartbreak’ LP that they heard on Tuesday in Los Angeles is pure electronic music.
“All the vocals were sung and treated with the electro “auto-tune” effect. But there was no rapping or overt sampling, just emotional waves of electronic sound, beats and occasional strings,” writes Steve Appleford.

Kanye West is touting the album as a very personal project.

He reportedly grabbed the mic after the album preview and shouted: “It’s from my heart. I don’t give a fuck if someone rates it ‘hot’ or ‘not.’ I’m here to bring positivity that cannot be judged.

“It’s like judging a grandmother’s love, and someone says ‘Your grandmother gets two and a half mics.’ Or, ‘You grandmother didn’t sell a million the first week.’”

So how should we interpret Kanye’s move into electronic music?

Many critics will view his album through cynical eyes - a chance to cash in on dance music’s vastly untapped mainstream potential (especially in the US) they might say.

Others may herald him as a genius who has managed to bring together two of the greatest opposing youth culture movements the world has ever seen.

The releasing arm of influential London night-spot Fabric are set to put out their first foray into the world of artist albums.

Buraka Som Sistema, the explosive Portuguese/Angolan four-piece will release their highly-anticipated debut long-player ‘Black Diamond’ through Fabric Records on November 10th.
Intriguingly labeled as an “electro ghettotech take on their favourite South West African music”, the band have been championed vehemently by the likes of Diplo, M.I.A, Santogold and Switch which goes someway to explain where they have been slotting into the UK scene.

The album features a number of guest vocalists - M.I.A, Kano, Petty, Pongolove, Bruno M, Saborosa, Puto Prata, Deize Tirgrona and DJ Znobia - who all contribute to their live show on a rotating basis.

The band will play two London dates - 21st October at Cargo and 22nd October at Africa Express for BBC Electric Proms - before embarking on a DJ tour of the UK in November and a full live tour in February 2009.

Focusing solely on compilations since its inception in 2001, Fabric Records has maintained a remarkably high standard across its releases which makes the decision to move into artist album territory both a bold and fascinating one.

With voting officially closed for the annual DJ Mag Top 100 poll, attentions now turn to the results party which takes place this year at London’s Ministry of Sound, October 29th.
Among those performing on the night will be French techno connoisseur Laurent Garnier, the currently all-conquering Deadmau5, Ibiza mainstay David Guetta, Toolroom boss Mark Knight and the ‘Worlds Number 1 DJ’ who has apparently been confirmed.
The line-up is notable by its distinct lack of trance artists who regularly dominate the standings and in particular the top 10.
UK Beatbox champion Beardyman will be hosting the event which will cost a nominal 5 pounds entry with all proceeds going to the RNID’s Dont Lose the Music campaign.

"80 sub bass drivers under the floor linked that are linked to the music " .... is all I can say about the new 'super' club Matter - informally labelled 'The One' of all nightclubs. Fabric owners Keith Reilly and Cameron Leslie led the multimillion-pound project, that opened last weekend and I have only heard of one review. Judging from the photos and the equipment that they've got in there, it's a gooden. Although, it seems transport is going to be an issue of which I hear a boat ferry is going to solve.

In terms of the sound. The main sound system for the club is based around a Martin Audio W8L Longbow line array. Matter’s VIP lounge will feature Void Acoustics Air Motion, Airten, Axys and Mycro loudspeaker systems. Void supplied over 30 loudspeakers for the area, which features a dance floor and seven private-entertainment booths. Two custom-designed bass enclosures – the Axsys X, a 2 x 18-inch multiple resonant chamber design, and the compact 2 x 12-inch Mycro are housed in the area.The dance floor contains two pairs of Void's signature Air Motion triple-horn mid/highs combined with four Axys X subs with Airten twin-coil units used for infills and DJ monitors. The private boots in the area feature an Airten unit and a Mycro X that has been specially designed to fit under the booth furniture. The Micro X features two 12-inch drivers in a space that usually fits only one driver, thus increasing the subs power to 1500 Watts.... yeah ... so it's got completely sick sound basically!

Cube: London’s new club in Shoreditch

Out with the old, in with the new. That’s the way London’s club scene has been moving recently with the closure of Turnmills, The End, The Cross, The Key and Canvas in recent months.

For a while it seemed like there was nowhere new for London’s electronic music fans to congregate, but then the people behind Fabric opened Matter, and from this weekend Shoreditch will have a new dance spot in the form of the Cube.

Cube is located at 55-61 Tabernacle Street, and from the looks of things, its owners hope to mop up some of the more clued-up London clubbers with a musical policy of nu disco and indie dance.
Best of all, Cube is free to get into.

With a lighting system modeled on Studio 54 in New York and Paris Paris (look at the Cube’s groovy lighting system above!) the club is located in the basement of the Tabernacle Bar and will host disco and leftfield promoters like Crispin Dior and Ben Rymer, East London duo Lou and Nova, and Blitz Club.

The Cube will be open from 9pm - 2am most night, and expect a soundtrack of discofied funk to get deep to.

Fabric celebrates 9 years with killer Line Up

London’s Fabric club is a shining beacon in clubland and proof that it is possible to fill a club week in, week out without booking the same old boring big name DJs.
For Fabric’s 9th birthday weekend, the club is pulling out all the stops to showcase nothing but the best in underground techno, minimal, breaks and drum & bass.
The line-up epitomises the club’s dedication to raw body music.
Robert Hood will play on Saturday
On Friday 17th October, Fabric’s three rooms will be bass heavy, with drum & bass veterans DJ Hype, Andy C, Fabio and Dillinja in room two, whilst Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts and WhoMadeWho will take over the main room.
Room 3 on Friday will be London breakbeat DJs Tayo, Toddla T and Joe Ransome.
Saturday 18th October is a techno fans wet dream with Luciano, Shinedoe and Martin Buttrich in room 1 alongside club residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis.
In room 2, US minimal master Robert Hood will play with Mark Broom, Baby Ford and Soul Designer live.
Room 3 meanwhile is a veritable deep house feast with Omar S, Patrice Scott and Keith Worthy all appearing.
With so many quality names on the bill, the club is earmarked to go all the way till midday on Sunday (prepare for a major battle).

Grooverider’s first gig since Dubai prison

Drum & bass hero Grooverider will play his first gig since being released from prison in Dubai on October 11th 2008 at London’s Koko club.
The jungle pioneer was recently freed after the Dubai Royal Family pardoned him - Grooverider was sentenced to four years in jail for possession of cannabis in February.
Grooverider will play back to back with his lifelong friend and collaborator Fabio, and a handful of supporting DJs will play too, including Shy FX, Dillinja, Bailey, Mickey Finn and Jumpin’ Jack Frost.

Street artist D*Face is giving others a run for their money with brilliant spray can sculptures.
You'll love it even more when you learn about the method. D*Face dressed as a council worker in yellow jackets while he and his crew installed the pieces. They then unwrapped their works of art and sprinted off.
Imagine the expressions and the applause of the bystanding Londoners as the street artists sprinted off. Genius!

First dubstep documentary on DVD

Dubstep has been one of the most exciting musical melting pots over the last few years.
From the techno-tinged outings of 2562 to the deep percussive onslaughts of Shackleton, from Burial’s enigmatic and haunting garage and early rave days nostalgia to the genre-bending works of people like Scuba, Mala, Martyn or T++, dubstep has always kept the pace, exploring new sonic territories.

Finally the brooding dubstep scene becomes its first documentary.
It’s been about time that a someone takes on the task of filming a documentary on dubstep. Now it’s arrived and it is called ‘Dubfiles’.

Apparently the DVD features interviews with top producers like Skream, Benga, Pinch, Hatcha, Caspar and many more, taking the time to look behind the scenes, discussing personal and musical backgrounds, art, politics, food and a whole lot more.

There is also a CD compilation to accompany the DVD, which features tracks from most of the interviewed artists like ‘Big Headed Slags’ by Caspa, to Rusko’s ‘Get Ya Cock out’, D1’s ‘Dubstep Warz’ and Pinch’s ‘Airlock’, alongside recent winners from Benga, Skream and N-Type.

Top Track: London Elektricity – All Hell Is Breaking Loose

After a two year hiatus London Elektricity, aka Tony Colman, has returned with an album full of soulful energetic tracks which will no doubt stick a gigantic, electrified cattle prod into the arse of drum & bass.

Consisting of live, orchestral, funk driven dnb, the album is a compilation of massive anthems. One track however specifically stands out, the aptly titled, ‘All Hell Is Breaking Loose’.

Tony Colman, who runs Hospital Records, with fellow cohort Chris Goss has constantly been a forward thinking innovator within drum & bass, and with this track has set an entirely new standard.

Incorporating a vast array of influences from soul, blues and rock this track maximises various production elements to it’s greatest. Some producers within the scene can knock out tracks within a few hours, but from one listen you can easily tell why Tony Colman took so long to perfect this.

With a massive soul sample exclaiming, “You can’t hear me, all hell is breaking loose,” the tone of the track is set instantly.

A massive funk bassline runs though this track like a juggernaut whilst interspersed with John Barry-like orchestral samples.

Jungle Drummer throws in a crazed mish-mash of jazz driven high velocity beats that challenges anyone to not join in a crazed air drum salute.

This hell driven, adrenaline-fuelled reaches its crescendo when the track bursts into a massive guitar solo, pinpointing the genius and true creative nature of London Elektricity.

Take note that this fella is a massive fan of The Equalizers after they played back2back at Bristol's the Tube. Bing Tings!

"It's sort of twisted minimal vs cheeky minimal" these are the words used to discribe this mix when it was given over to me by the talented Alfie Granger-Howell aka Solarity aka Spencer Vallance. Having looked high and low for a quality minimal set and failed, this set has made my fortnight (hoping Spencer Vallance will give me another in a couple weeks). Looking forward to hearing this duo through some Funktion 1 sound soon.
